I skipped last week as things were very busy with work as we had Graduation going on and I didn’t do a lot of crochet as I was too tired most days. Not only that but my own daughter was graduating too! I work at the University I studied at, and my daughter has now graduated from the same place, so it felt pretty special. It was strange being in the Graduation audience as usually I am keeping an eye on the live streams as I’m the IT contact for the ceremonies! It was a very proud moment for me 🙂 And today is my daughter’s birthday, so Happy Birthday Abi! Lots of celebrations for her this month!
This week things have been a little quieter so I did get some crochet done, and then Friday was my birthday, so I was lucky enough to get some crochet-related gifts!
I got some lovely yarn from my Mum & Dad. Some KnitCraft Spinning Kaleidoscope and some Sirdar Jewelspun in Aran and Chunky weights. Such pretty yarn!
I have started making a shawl from the Aran Jewelspun (the one at the bottom of the picture). It’s using the pattern Simple Tunisian Fade Shawl by Kris Stone. I’m not actually doing any fading, but I liked the simple pattern and the yarn is doing all the colour changes by itself! It’s a gently sloping triangle but with an extra increase plus a decrease at the other end which gives it a lovely curve instead of straight lines.
I haven’t got any definite plans for the others yet, but I’m going to have lots of fun pondering 🙂
I also got this gorgeous set of Tunisian interchangeable hooks. It’s the KnitPro Amore set and it’s beautiful. The hooks are lovely and smooth and nice to use, and it comes with a range of cable lengths and stoppers. You might spot that I’m using one of the hooks in the photo of the shawl above!
I also had some Lego, jigsaws, and books for my birthday!
I had just finished the jigsaw in progress on the morning of my birthday, and now have started one of my new ones 🙂
Yesterday in our self-declared Lego day (the day between me and my daughter’s birthdays) I built my new Lego sets (as well as starting to read one of my books!)
In other crochet progress I did indeed frog back the skinny scarf in Tunisian lace stitch and started again with a slightly different way of changing colour which means that it’s not pulling so tight on the right. It is a lot straighter and has grown quite a bit.
And finally… here are the cats enjoying the various boxes and bags from birthday present packaging!

What a great birthday, and so many things to celebrate! This was lovely to read. I really like Jewelspun, the colours are pretty and it’s nice and soft, too. Look forward to seeing your shawl progress 😊
