I was searching for a free crochet pattern for squares with bobble numbers on them and couldn’t find one. I had found a good one for letters here: https://knit-a-square.com/free-crochet-pattern-alphabet-squares/ but not numbers. So I went on Stitch Fiddle and made my own. Seeing as I struggled to find this pattern I thought I’d share what I created online. My numbers use the same style and size as the letters linked above, so you if you like me need numbers and letters I’d recommend using their letter pattern.
To create the squares you start with a chain of 28 stitches, then dc (UK) / sc (US) in the 2nd stitch and all the way along. You should then have 27 dc/sc. Keep going back and forth until you have done enough rows to reach your first bobbles (indicated by the black square on the chart). Then follow the chart to add the bobbles in the right stitches to create the shape. It uses standard bobble stitch including a chain to finish. When you’re going back along a row after bobbles have been made, be careful to not stitch into that chain or you’ll gain stitches along the way. Remember that on the bobble rows you are working on the back of the square as the bobbles push through to the other side – make sure you keep that in mind when reading the chart!
There are multiple versions of number 4 and 7 as I couldn’t decide which one was best – feel free to use whichever you prefer.
Here are the charts I made for the numbers:
