Sunday Crochet Update 2/3/25

After I posted last Sunday I started on the lacy socks…

Sunday – finished toe and started lacy pattern:

Later on Sunday, stopped for a fit check (featuring my ankle scar from my fracture surgery!):

And a photo off my foot:

By the end of Sunday it was just about the right length to start the heel:

Next photo I took was Wednesday when I’d done some work on it in my lunch hour at work:

And then on Wednesday evening I finished it off:

You’d think I might have made the 2nd one by now, but along the way there were various little frustrations and I wasn’t ready to make another. I wasn’t entirely happy with the length of the toe part in the pattern, and it seemed a bit pointy. I also lost my way a bit with the heel turn and had to frog it back and try again and ended up doing it a bit narrower than it should have been. I might make another one at some point, but I did start making a different pattern which has a smaller toe with a shell pattern. I think I will forgive myself for not finishing a pair as it’s a bit of an experiment really, reminding myself of how a sock is constructed and finding out what I like and don’t like.

I was looking at some of my hand-dyed yarn stash and wanted to make something with some of it. So I found a pattern for a t-shirt and started making that with these 3 cakes. The two pinky-purply ones are Abercairn Yarns and the teal one is from The Woolly Tangle. They’re wool/silk blend and very shiny and nice to work with. Hopefully they’ll last long enough to complete a t-shirt. The pattern is Mars Tee by Amy Gunderson

My daughter and I had a major yarn sort out yesterday, we spent nearly all day doing it and it’s still not really finished as we ran out of storage boxes. I’ve ordered some more so we can finish it off. It has reminded me just how much yarn I have in my stash! There are a lot of scraps and odd balls left over from projects, but there are also some sets of yarn I’d bought but hadn’t created anything with them yet. So I’m now hoping to get stash-busting this year and use some of the yarn I’d forgotten about to make lots of lovely things! I think I’ll put myself on a yarn-ban apart from Wonder Wool Wales in April (can’t not buy lovely hand-dyed yarn there!) and see what I can make from what I already have, and finish off things I started (or frog them back and make something new). We will see how that goes!

  1. I think I prefer the sock when it was ankle height. I love the shades for your t-shirt. How long until you finish it – assuming you work on it a couple of hours a night?
