Hi readers (if I have any left!), it’s been quite some time since I blogged consistently and I’ve been thinking I’d like to get back into it again. Not sure if this will actually happen, and I’m putting no pressure on myself, but maybe you’ll be hearing from me more often in 2025.
So I thought I’d get started by having a look back at the year and seeing what crochet projects I finished in 2024.
First thing I completed this year was this cable jumper which I started the previous year but hadn’t managed to finish off. My daughter had made one and I kept admiring it so decided to make one for myself.

Ready for joining the Aber Pride parade I made myself this colourful vest top to wear, and we were lucky enough to have a lovely sunny day for it.

I had previously made a jumper (finished in January 2024) with a load of hand-dyed yarn I’d collected or been given. Unfortunately my yarn joins started to unravel and it was a bit of a disaster. So I spent a very long time carefully frogging it (after I’d worn and washed it!) and then created a new jumper out of it (different pattern) and was much more careful with my joins. This was the final result.

I moved into a new office this year with my friend & colleague and we decided we needed to make it our own, so inspired by her quote on the wall “Always be yourself. Unless you can be a unicorn, then always be a unicorn” I made us this unicorn! Ms Unicorn’s name is Hefina and I’m very proud of her 🙂

As my hair has been growing this year, it started to annoy me and I wanted to keep it tied back. And me being me, of course I thought how can I crochet something useful for this. So I’ve been crocheting scrunchies in different yarns to match jumpers and cardis!
Here’s one of the many scrunchies I made this year.
After buying some earrings from a yarn shop (in Conwy I think) I was inspired to have a go at making my own. It was very fiddly and I’m not 100% happy with the result but it’s fun to wear earrings I made myself. Maybe will try out some other designs this year.
After acquiring some new hand-dyed yarn, I really needed more storage, so made myself this basket with some super-chunky yarn.

This little hexi cardi was made for a colleague’s new daughter.
I spotted a nice blue-mix yarn in Home Bargains and whipped myself up this hexy cardi.
I created this little rainbow hanger to let someone know we were thinking of them, and hoping for the best.
At work we had a couple of Away Days and I ran a crafting session for them. We created squares (or other shapes!) which I then created a blanket with. I added a bunch more squares that I had lying around and added more to make it more of a blanket size. Now it lives in our tea room at work and hopefully we’ll create another one in 2025.
This year I decided it was high time I had a homemade Christmas jumper, so I cooked one up using Yarnsmiths Create Chunky. I’d seen a DK fairy lights jumper with a different construction (Christmas Lights Sweater) and was inspired to make my own chunky top-down version.
As usual, I was busy working on crocheted Christmas gifts over the last 1/3 of the year and now I can reveal them! Personalised wall hangings using mosaic crochet. I used snippets from various patterns including:

My lovely daughter bought me a hand-dyed yarn advent set from Giddy Yarns, so I had a lovely time throughout December adding a stripe a day to this linen stitch (or moss stitch) shawl. It was based on the Terry Pratchett book The Hogfather and each day I re-read a snippet of the book and opened a mini skein. I really enjoyed it 🙂
Now I just need to figure out how to wear a shawl without looking/feeling daft!!
Finally, I finished this cosy oversized hexi cardigan last night. It’s very warm and snuggly. You may spot that I was wearing it over a jumper in these pictures – that’s because we have no heating currently and multiple layers are absolutely necessary! Fingers crossed we’ll get it fixed soon! I’m not sure what is going on with the edging round the bottom curling up

I like the hexi xardigans but I can’t figure out how you use large granny squares and it comes out like this. Will have to investigate further. I made a double bedspread with Home Bargains chunky in white, light and dark grey, and black granny squares. I think I bought up all their wool as there was no more grey when I last looked 🙂
